Using technology the right way

Hello! I just want to point out some things about how we are treating/using the technology.

  1. Trolleys –   Some people are putting the laptops and iPads the wrong way into the trolley.  I would really appreciate it if the people who know the right way to tell the people who are doing it the wrong way. Please remember how many devices fit into the slots. (MacBooks: 4) (Chromebooks: 3) (iPad: 2)
  2. Holding the Laptops the right way – Now I see this a lot. Please hold them with two hands. If your holding it in just one there’s a chance that it will fall out of your hands and break.
  3. Stacking The laptops – You can only Stack 2 Macbooks on top of each other. With chromebooks its the same – only 2.
  4. Follow online expectations – We want everyone to have a good time on the technology. Please always follow the expectations.

I hope you look after the technology more after reading this.

Learning Lots in Prep

Preps are always busy learning! This week, we have loved our ‘rotations’ for literacy.

We are learning to log in to Reading Eggs ourselves, to learn all about letters and words for reading.

We used the ipads to practise writing and played a game of sound bingo.

We have talked about what we like to do at the beach, then worked with our teacher to write about it and read it back.

We used the beginning sound to read some sentences, and then illustrated each sentence.

We love iPads!

We  have had great fun learning about being safe when we use our iPads. Mr Cotela has come to our classroom each week and has taught us about to care for our iPads and to keep safe when we are on the computer. Today we learned that there are some strangers that want us to fill out information about ourselves. We learned that we NEVER give anyone our name and address especially on the computer.

What do you do to stay safe?IMG_0003[1] IMG_0005[1]

Sharing our creative writing on the iPad

In 1/2 this term, we have been learning about a range of text types from Exposition and Explanation to revision of our creative writing. This week, student’s planned and composed their own creative stories that started from a ‘seed’ (one idea) and grew from there. I had the pleasure of hearing one child read me the beginning of their story about looking for treasure in the desert! Go 1/2’s!!

1/2 ICT

Making Videos in 1/2C

This term in our ICT classes we are excited to be learning about making and recording videos.

After our first lesson with Mr. C, we have already learnt the basics for recording ourselves using the iMovie app on the iPads.  We practiced our new skills by working in small groups and recording each other talking about our favourite things.

We are already looking forward to learning more, so we can edit and add special effects to our videos.

Confirmation Retreat

Today the Year 6 students from St Charles and St Kevin’s participated in a Confirmation Retreat day at Holy Cross. We had a guest speaker from Caritas Australia who created an awareness of social justice through workshop activities. We used the Phoster App to create images and captions on the gifts of the Holy Spirit. The students received a personal letter from their parents/families acknowledging the gifts they see in their child. This coming Wednesday the confirmation candidates will be meeting Archbishop Hart at the Cathedral and rehearse for their upcoming Confirmation.

QR Codes in Prep

IMG_0134This week, the preps were introduced to QR Codes on the iPad. These codes allow the children to easily access predetermined internet sites. This week, we looked at funny animal photos. In the coming weeks, QR codes will be used to access a variety of internet sites which will enhance the children’s learning. In the photo, Emmy, Mia, Hudson and Alli have found a photo of a cat with a melon on its head. Hilarious!
